The shocking and distressing reality that occurred at Bondi last Sunday evening has deeply shaken us. The scourge of antisemitism and its threat to our social fabric have taken root, and we need the resolve to deal with it and rid our country of this scourge.
The Military Diocese wishes to reach out to all families affected by the murder of loved ones and those suffering from their injuries in hospital.
We are very conscious of all Jewish members of the Australian Defence Force who, as Jewish Australians, are deeply affected by the ongoing reality of antisemitism and the distressing effect it has been having on their fellow Jewish Australians over the last two years. The Military Diocese stands in solidarity with Rabbi Ralph Genende, our Jewish member of the Religious Advisory Committee to the Services, and with his Jewish ADF Chaplains. May you and your families feel safe and secure in the realisation that your belonging to the ADF is valued and your contributions to the Defence community are deeply appreciated.
To our Jewish members and families, may the celebration of Hanukkah this year, in the midst of present darkness brought about by evil, bring deep consolation and your resolve that the light of Hanukkah may continue to burn brightly.
Our prayers and thoughts accompany you in these days, weeks, and months ahead.
May God's blessings keep you safe, may your light continue to burn, and may your lives of service and family life be a blessing to us all.
