A PRAYER FOR WORLD YOUTH DAY 2008
God Our Father,
we consecrate to you the World Youth Day in Sydnjey in 2008.
Guide and protect Pope Benedict and all the leaders of the Church.
Inspire and direct all those leading and planning the World youth Day.
Unite and protect them by your fatherly care.
Amen.

Lord Jesus Christ,
before you ascended to the Father, you promised to send your Holy Spirit
so that we might be your witnesses to the end of the earth.
Bless and multiply the efforts of all our staff and volunteers.
Help us to take up our cross and follow you under the heavenly sign of the Southern Cross.
Amen

Holy Spirit,
pour out your grace on this Great South Land of the Holy Spirit and grant us a New Pentacost.
Make of this land a true place of welcome for the young people of the world.
Grant to those young people who come conversion of life, a deeper faith, and love for all. Enable them to build a new civilisation of life, love and truth.
Make them true witnesses to your power and grace.
Amen

Our Lady of the Southern Cross, Help of Christians - pray for us,
Blessed Mary MacKillop - pray for us.

A WORLD YOUTH DAY PRAYER FOR THE MILITARY
Our Gracious Lord,
as we prepare for the 23rd World Youth Day in Sydney, we pray for the international military community.
Bless us as we unite as soldiers, sailors, airmen and airwomen of faith in the name of Your Son, Jesus Christ.

We offer our prayers for Pope Benedict XVI, Bishop Max Davis, all the Military Bishops and all the chaplains serving you in the military. Please guide them, and inspire the decisions of our national leaders and military commanders.

We ask the Holy Spirit to guide, strengthen and protect all our mates and colleagues who are deployed to places of danger and conflict.
May their efforts bring peace and hope to Your people on earth.
Please return them safely to their families.
Amen

Mother Mary, Help of Christians - pray for us,
Blessed Mary MacKillop - pray for us,
Pope John Paul II - pray for us.

PRAYER FOR THE AUSTRALIAN DEFENCE FORCE
Lord, our God,
we thank you for the service and sacrafice of all who have made possible the freedom we enjoy and the heritage we have been given.
We commend to you all who now serve in the Defence Force of Australia.
Shelter them in danger, and in time of peace keep them from evil.
For ourselves, we pray that you will help us to persevere in loyalty and courage, and grant us to be worthy of those who have gone before us.

Through Christ our Lord,
Amen.

PRAYER OF ST FRANCIS OF ASSISI FOR PEACE
Lord,
make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me show love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is dispair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy;

O Divine Master,
grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled, but to console;
not to be understood, but to understand;
not to be loved, but to love.

For it is in giving that we receive;
in forgiving others that we are forgiven; and
in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Amen.

PRAYER OF ST IGNATIUS OF LOYOLA
Lord,
teach me to be generous. Teach me to serve you as you deserve;
to give and not to count the cost;
to fight and not to heed the wound;
to toil and not to seek for rest;
to labour and not to ask for reward, except to know that I am doing thy Holy will.
Amen.
